Electronic serials may be defined very broadly as any journal, magazine, e'zine, webzine, newsletter or type of electronic serial publication which is available over the Internet. Within this broad definition, the titles can be electronically accessed using different technologies such as the World Wide Web (WWW), gopher, ftp, telnet, email or listserv. Of course, virtually all modern electronic journals are mostly available via the Web. This site primarly includes ejournal sites as they are offered by the publisher. In general this site excludes ejournals that are embedded within aggregators (such as Northern Light, EBSCO, Bell & Howell ProQuest, Information Access Company and others).
This web page provides a series of indexes (e.g. title and Library of Congress Subject Heading) to provide easy access to different electronic serials. There has been no attempt in this product to provide any evaluation of the titles in terms of content or quality. However, a unit record for each title must be viewed before launching to a title of interest which will provide some information about scope and content.
Since electronic serials are constantly appearing and disappearing, the unit records will be periodically checked for accuracy. New titles are added as they are discovered.
A report on the electronic journal marketplace was completed in March 1997 by the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries in a report entitled Electronic Journal Market Overview - 1997.
